Was 2023 a good year for the patent market? We are torn. When we wrote the first draft of this year's report, the data looked gloomy. But then when we dug deeper and realised that the last year turned out not be too bad.

Late last year, Intel resurfaced the sale of a connected devices patent portfolio that was sidelined during the $1 billion sale of the majority of their smartphone modem assets to Apple (which included a pile of cellular wireless related patents). Intel has opened the sale to operating companies, defensive aggregators and even NPEs (non-binding indications of interest are due from bidders at the end of this month).

Since we first started running this analysis in 2013 (subscribers can see the first piece here) some things in the deals space have stayed the same while a lot, not surprisingly, has changed. First Freely Available Patent Transactions Database Launched by Unified Patents and ROI
Unified Patents, the organization dedicated to deterring NPE activity and improving transparency in the patent markets, today announced the launch of a new collaboration with Richardson Oliver Insights (ROI) to provide free access to patent transaction data on more than 25,000 patent families that are For Sale and Likely Sold via the Portal, Unified’s open IP analytics platform.
